it was an interesting plot idea and the story was good but the execution of it could've been so much better. there wasn't a problem that needed solving so it read kind of like an indie film with no conflicts, just her story laid out for us to read in a semi confusing order
This is another time I read a book from an author that wrote a book I loved - in this case We Were Liars - and was baffled that they can write something so, bad. Please, do not waste your time. The story is a rip off of The Talented Mr. Ripley, and not a very good one.
i’ve never read a story backwards and it was such a cool way to tell this story. i really liked this
honestly dont know how to feel about this book?? it was definitely a page turner and i love the style of it going backwards in time i just feel like none of the characters i connected with because they all kind of suck LOL and also there was a lot of unanswered questions, but that also kind of adds to jules character and i would be interested in a sequel to find out more. overall would recommend but definitely some more disturbing parts near the end
It lost a star for a lukewarm ending, but the backwards storyline (which I would normally hate) was well executed for the most part
Oh wow.
This book was so very different than anything I have ever read before! The best thing about Genuine Fraud is that there is no clear mystery that needs solving. It's only after the first couple of chapters that you realise that there is a mystery to begin with but you still read through- this book is that good.
Honestly, I'm really hungover this book, especially the main protagonist, Jules. I was rather inspired by her and in a kinda creepy way, could relate to her. Jules is a strong and determined woman, unfazed by the extremities of life. She knows what she wants and will do anything to achieve that, But on the other hand she is just a lonely soul wrapped up in her secrets and fake personality, only wishing that she could be loved. That someone could love her true self even when she herself doesn't know who she is.
This story follows her beautiful and intriguing story, but backwards! As each chapter progresses we move back in time which just adds to this mind-blowing book. Fair warning though, I caught on to what was happening mid-way through the book but I didn't really know why, which is what kept me reading.
My only complain was that while we know everything about Jule's present and her journey, we don't know much about her past, and most importantly how she became who she is know.
But overall this was a wonderful page-turner that I was simply unable to put down.
SPOILERS AHEAD
In the beginning I loved Imogen's character but soon found out that she is one of those girls that I dislike in real life- spoilt and thinking everything in the world is about them. Not to mention she kept going through friends and boyfriends like they were pieces of trash.
Jules outburst was completely normal though the extremity of her violence was not. I can put myself into Jules' shoes because I am already there. I've hardly got any friends and really adore and treasure the couple of friends I've got. If one of them told me the horrible things Immie had said I would have lashed out too, but definitely not the way Jules had.
ALSO PAULO IS SO SWEET I TOTALLY SHIP HIM WITH JULES THEY NEED TO GET TOGETHER, OKAY?

i have mixed opinions about this one. first of all, i think the reverse chronology is a unique way to tell a story, but even though it did fit with this book, i found it too confusing and it bothered me. the story is so interesting but also lacked suspense - i wasn’t hyped to continue reading whatsoever. a very different read for me, but i still really liked it
This book was way different than I expected, in a good way.
I opened the first page to see chapter 18 first and thought "oh no the timeline is backwards."
I was engrossed in this book, fitting the pieces together as a reader was fun for me.
I can see why it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea but I enjoyed it so much!
