Love the artwork in this one, the endpapers, and the authors’ note introducing the life and ethos of Flannery O’Connor.

This was really cute and I expect Jenny to buy me a copy of this when/if I ever have kids.

A children's book about sassy little Flannery O'Connor? SO MEANT FOR ME.

I got the pleasure to meet Acree and Natalie at the ALA Midwinter conference this past weekend. They were awesome! They are going to be at Avid at Five Points in February.
I just got the chance to read their book and I love it. I love the art work and how they incorporated real black and white pictures into the story. Yes, the book is about a well known story of Flannery O'Connor.

A picture book about birds doing it and Flannery O'Connor as a child. Yup.

I adore the patchwork art, but I think the story is a little too disjointed to use for a storytime. I also like... get that a peacock's tail is for mating, but coaxing the peacock by introducing a cute peahen was kind of an anti-climax for me, and the ending really trails off. I didn't know this book was based on the childhood of Flannery O'Connor until the author's note. That's neat, but this story could have used more framing at both ends.
