I am typing up this review about 10 days after reading this book here is my problem.....I don't remember much about it. It was not until I read the Product Description did my memory remember the plot. Here is what I remember thinking....
-this book is a great read for middle school students. I think the humor and plot line will keep them engaged
-this book is similar to the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series
-being that I cannot remember anything about the book 10 days later it obviously was nothing special
-I will recommend to my students who like the Diary series, but other than that this book will be long lost and forgotten in my reading history
So many YA and middle grade books are so predictable anymore. They all follow the same format and structure. It is time for a new and cutting edge book to come along.

This isn't the deep reflective book that allows one to reflect upon their life. But the proposition of a main character who is motivated by their imaginary friend is interesting. Perhaps “rules aren't for everyone” sounds like anarchy — the story provides a thought-provoking question as to how one fits into society, how rules often times limit people's freedom, and how we should all venture to do what we want to do — not what we are forced to. It's a short and fun read that everyone can enjoy.

I know a lot of people find this book really good and funny, but I actually found it kind of sad. As a teacher, it really illustrates how students will act out to get attention in all the wrong ways. It is definitely not one that I will recommend to my students.

I listened to this with the kids because they really want to read it before seeing the movie, and I have really mixed feelings--a weird mix of middle school pranksterism and major, major life issues.

Middle school classic. I related to this whole book when reading it while in middle school.

I mean, I read this in order to record an episode of Renata and Kait's podcast Worst Best Sellers. I think that says it all. (And HONESTLY, it wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be... which is ridiculous because it was pretty much a mess.)

It appears that this book is trying to get the reader to understand that the kid who is a ratbag and breaking rules has issues.
The fact that the authors use these issues as a big twist reveal and that reveal shows that everyone would have known about them and what he needed was psychological assistance show the weakness and intention of the book.
The book has underlying serious issues and it could have been dealt with in an amazing way, but once again with Patterson Incorporated really poor execution triumphs over good ideas, although having said that it is wondered if the ideas actually come from previous materials that PI want to put their own spin on.
This book was clearly written for the younger reader, but in doing so it made being a ratbag in class to be almost admirable and treated the very real issue of bullies in a poor way.
