Okay 4.5 stars, I LOVED this book, what can I say? It was funny and charming and lovely and sweet. Personally, it took me a bit to get into it at the start, it was a bit slow and I was like “what are we doing here?” by page 60 but then we met SWEET OLIVER! He knew just what to say and he didn’t even realize it. And I feel like one of Luc’s friends with how much I was cheering him on, I felt so proud seeing him change for the better :’)

(listened to the audiobook)

Ok this book grew on me. I didn't like Luc at first because, well... he's Luc and is a dick to pretty much everyone around him. But I grew to really like him. This book really was all about "everyone is messed up and that's ok" and I found that beautiful. Oliver was funny and interesting and charming, while also being a colossal mess. A lovable, colossal mess. Luc was also a disaster, but he grew to be a better person.
Spoiler I liked how he started off as a dick and wasn't allowed excuses. He realized over time, "hey, I'm a dick to all my friends, and boyfriends, and maybe I should stop. And work on myself. AND HE DOES!!! I am so proud of my son!!!

I love how they make each other better not in the "i can fix him" way, but in the "I call him on his bullshit and he wants to become a better person" kind of way, which was beautiful.
Spoiler and I LOVE that when they broke up in the end, Luc actually realized all the good that came from his relationship and was ok with how things turned out. Because you can't force someone to be with you, but you can recognize all the stuff that happened because of them and move on. And he genuinely improved so much. He became less of an asshole to his friends and his coworkers, he cared more about himself (see his apartment and his clubbing), and he even tried things with his father.

OK HIS DAD SUCKS but I am so happy he did. I was NOT here for an "I abandoned you but I have cancer so everything will be perfect now" story because that's so unrealistic. I love how his dad still sucks ass and always will, and Luc can move on knowing how much his dad sucks. I really loved that. Yes realistic portrayals in the romance genre!!!

Also, Oliver's parents? Sucked so much. And I loved that they talked about it (and the potential eating disorder) and all of it. Sometimes there are issues that you need an outside perspective to see, and I like how it will take him some time to see what to do, because unlearning lifelong habits are hard, but I am proud of them both. Yes.

Also, am I the only one who didn't like Oliver's friends? They didn't respect his vegetarianism, seem to mock him about his past relationships, and idk. They all seem to get along fine, but the teasing seemed to cross the line into mean territory which made me feel a bit icky. Especially with his parents constantly telling him how much of a failure he is, having his friends lowkey echo some of the comments, even in jest, cut a little too close to home.

There were a few little things I didn't like, but then good things happened right after to make up for them, so they don't really matter in the long run. I really liked this book. I even grew to like the voice actor (I didn't originally and almost stopped reading because of him), but everything worked out in the end. I love these boys a lot (especially Oliver. Oh my sweet boy), and will definitely read the sequel.

I LOVED this book a lot. It was very captivating and cute. There were many parts where I was giggling and kicking my feet over the characters and the comedic dialogue and narration. This book was veryy tame but still sexy and cute; it was a great mindless read.

Fun little notes:

- This was my first gay romance book.
- I finished this somewhere in the middle of 2024 and it was the first book I had finished in a whiiiile.
- This book is what reignited my joy for reading again and was a great easy intro back into books
- I’ve now realized that there is almost nothing sexier than reading a romance book.
