I get the point, but all of this plot would make sense for 18-20 years old, not 28 year-olds
Also, the tempo was lost around 2/3rd of the book in
It was okay, quite funny at times and I liked character development, but definitely overhyped

Alexis Halls Bücher leben von den peculiar Gedanken, Dialogen und side quests. I wouldn't have it any other way.

- Oliver must be protected at all costs.
- Die beiden sind so unfassbar geprägt von ihren Unsicherheiten, man will sie einfach nur in den Arm nehmen.

I really enjoyed the characters dynamics overall, but I found the pacing difficult. It starts out very slow, midway through gets a good pace, and then ends rather abruptly. This is also how the character development works. Painstakingly watching Luc learn he was gonna need to let go was one thing, but he turned that around so quick into "fixed and ready to love" that I felt a bit of whiplash. By the end I'm like "why are you the reasonable one" and I don't feel like Luc was also enough on that time imo, he just Was Reasonable, instead of being the sorta shitty guy I had come to know. I'm all good for Love changing a person, but I don't think he should turn around so quick he doesn't even really complain when his partner acts like he used to- that's a level of understanding I did NOT see the man grow into.
Additionally, I know this is part of a trilogy, but it was not entirely clear that we were going that way through pacing- it paced as if it was a typical romcom until suddenly we cut off- I was shocked until I looked it up to see there was a sequel. I never would have guessed on my own. It's hard to completely hold that against the book- but typically I can tell in the pacing whether or not I'm in for a long haul, and I certainly couldn't here, which makes this book feel weaker.

I went into this book completely blind. I saw it had a decent rating on goodreads and that someone mentioned the audiobook narrator, Joe Jameson, was fantastic. So I was surprised, but not mad, when I realized this was a MMC/MMC book lol. The rumors were true-Joe is an absolutely fantastic narrator. I would say just reading this would have made me give it a 3.5, but listening to him bumped it up to an easy 4.25. All the characters had fun backstories and were so fun and true to themselves. I flew through this book and found myself feeling all of the emotions. Some spice but nothing super explicit.
Somewhere between just alright and genuinely cute. The writing was funny, I live for a realistically complicated/fucked up character that people call "unlikeable," and navigating the family stuff was the most interesting part to me. I liked Oliver but felt like he lacked character development for 90% of the book and then at the very end Hall went "oh shit right here you go." I know there's a second book but that (lack of an) ending is *criminal*
Long quote:
"Where are you going with this story?" I asked. "Because all of those things are true and your curry is terrible."
" Where I am going with this, mon caneton, is that I don't give a shit. It is my curry, and I will make it the way I fucking well want to. And that is the way Oliver should live his life. Because the people who matter will love you anyway"
