Easy to follow, cute patterns. Very good for a beginner crocheter like me.
True to its title, the crochet patterns are, in fact, both creepy and cute. I think the book is mainly geared toward adolescent/teen crocheters and perhaps adults who want to make novelty items, because many require some knowledge of mythology or pop culture. Not good for kids though, for sure! LoL
The patterns are pretty hard to understand, but if you an advanced crocheter this book is great for you.
Very, very cute! I had to look alot of this stuff up (it was not very instructive), but it was well within my abilities (and those aren't that great). I'm currently staring at a little crocheted skeleton bride. Her eyes have fallen off and she's missing a veil, but that's due to my laziness- the book is great and very creative.
I watched Christen make these at parties for years, and then one day I saw this book on the new release shelf at the library, and I thought, "Cool! Somebody made a book that shows me how to do them, too!" And I read a few pages and saw the Cthulhu pattern and I thought "Wait a minute, there can't be *two* people in the world who make a crocheted Cthulhu..." And then I realized that I was really a very silly person who needed to start reading the authors' names when I pick up books.
I'm just learning to crochet, but this had some cute things I was able to make.
informative
fast-paced
This book is one of the most helpful crochet pattern books I've picked up to date. And Christen Haden has an adorable, quirky sense of humor--There's a super cute monkey pattern thrown into the mix just because--that made this book so enjoyable. It's wonderful! It's rare to find a pattern book where I actually WANT to read all the little blurbs and floating quotes.
The first part of the book is dedicated to discussing materials, pros and cons of different products, and options for customizing projects to make them your own. The rest of the book is patterns, which are very clearly written and diagrammed and easy to follow.
There are several of projects with tiny details not for the impatient (cough, cough), and a small number that I definitely would not recommend giving to children. But they'd all make cute additions to desks, cubicles, and bookshelves. I definitely plan on making as many of these as I have the supplies and patience for.
