A boy and his great uncle travel from New York to Nice and discover more about their families. The relationship between the two protagonists builds gently and parents are judged, harshly at first and then with more compassion as the older man comes to accept the circumstances which led them to do what they did. I liked that the older man came to understand his privilege and see that others even within the same city do not have the same health care, and educational opportunities and may be exposed to predatory criminals from a young age. I enjoyed the humour injected by the young boy, without that it would have been quite a dry tale. I also enjoyed the facts about Nice inserted throughout.

This book reminds me of a lazy river. It felt as if I lay on a tube and let its gentle pacing guide me through its twists and turns. The book forced me slow down and savor my literary surroundings and when the last page was read, I just wanted to do it again.

I loved this book - a story of family histories, a story of being a bridge for one another and in that saving ourselves. I liked the family history/mystery, the characters and the history.

Really enjoyed it, made me remember why I loved Room so much.
The characters were so realistic, especially Michael.
