Such a great book! The Arthur stuff was difficult for me to follow at first, but this book is written with such heart, you can't ignore it. Fantasy mixed with a journey through grief that anyone can relate to. Forget Young Adult. This is for everybody.

This book was so good! I know little to nothing about Arthurian lore and magic, so this story was new and different for me. We're thrown into this new magical world with our main character, Bree, and it's disorienting at times. There's so many terms and titles, but ultimately it just creates the atmosphere. The setting during contemporary times added a great juxtaposition between Southern university and...medieval mages. Bree's Blackness is a needed and welcomed addition to the "YA fantasy female main character." I loved Deonn's inclusion of Black culture and history into Bree's narrative--her skin color isn't just coincidental. The love triangle (or at least proper hinting at one) was also handled so well that I couldn't believe my eyes when I realized I didn't have a preference by the end of the book. Overall, this book was fun and intriguing, and I look forward to the next installment and anything else Deonn writes.

Incredible. I loved this book so much. Every aspect was carefully cultivated, from the history to the characters and relationships to the magic system. The family dynamics felt so real and Bree was such an interesting and understandable main character and narrator.

I cannot wait for the sequel!!! (Please let there be more Sel

This was.....long. Slow to start fast end. I enjoyed it but not as much as I wanted to. I’ll happily read its sequel though.
