The main character was really unlikeable. The story did nothing to pull you into his perspective.

Despite the light and fluffy tone of the book, at its heart, this is a story about family and how everyone deals with grief in different ways.
The main character, Patrick, takes on a role he did not feel qualified nor prepared for, yet he deals with his niece and nephew (his "niblings") in a thoughtful and empathetic way. The story has many funny moments; the kids are cute and unpredictable, as kids are; Patrick has a quick, dry wit; and the interactions of the different characters are entertaining, even as they are deep,  sad or sometimes painful at the same time.
It's a story about beginnings as much as it is about endings.

Sweet, lighthearted, and cathartic, if a little corny.
