This was another good read from Maas, had to deduct a star as there were a couple of annoyances like calling voicemail (audio mail). It was also a bit of a info dump at the beginning but persevere as it all starts to make sense. There were a few good twist and turns and Bryce kicks arse! Also enjoyed Hunt Athalar, but would have like to have seen a bit more of him (if you know what I'm sayin')
Amazing book. I was surprised by how well SJM melded the supernatural cultures into a more modern theme. I loved ToG and ACOTAR and thought this would be similar, but was pleasantly surprised by the modern take on things. I loved the mention of other worlds hintcrossoverhint??

Since this was my first foray into fantasy storytelling that incorporated elements of a “modern” world, I was wary of the two meshing together in a way that seemed natural and didn’t take anything away from the classic world building of the traditional fantasy genre. But after reading both the ACoTaR and ToG series, it was easy to see how Maas’ writing style matured over time and seamlessly blended modern elements of our time to help add an even stronger level of relatability to the characters and their setting.
Across all three series, I’ve always loved the way Maas consistently managed to captivate me in the early stages of the first books that set out to establish the foundation and commit to world building, her language and writing style committed to making the set-up anything but slow. As I’ve come to expect no shortage of plot twists and spicy moments, she again was right on the mark and had me dying to jump into the next book in the series.
