This was a really sweet story. I enjoyed the light feel of it, while touching on topics a typical nun would be against (like homosexuality). I was able to picture the characters and their funny characteristics. The book reminded me of Sister Act, without the kids.

I always love a debut... I had no idea what this was going to be about and I found this unexpected story very refreshing. Sister Agatha and three other Sisters live in a convent outside of Buffalo, NY. This foursome does almost everything together, and they live with an older sister called Sister Roberta. When their convent is closed and they are relocated to Rhode Island, Sister Roberta is moved to a retirement home and Agatha and the three other Sisters end up living in a halfway house trying to help the people who are recovering from addiction. Agatha ends up teaching high school geometry at the parish high school, keeping chapters ahead of her students. Agatha's voice is thoughtful and her observations are sharp. She's not always kind about the three other Sisters but she is more charitable toward the failings of the people they are there to serve. I enjoyed the descriptions and Agatha's thoughts about the people she sees around her. I would read this again, and will definitely read another by this author.

Amazingly written and perfectly encompasses my own personal feminist rage towards the Catholic Church I grew up with. Also really love how it talks about girlhood and sisterhood so exquisitely.
