Just no. Every page was a struggle. I definitely was eager to read this one, as it’s considered a “must-read classic”, but jeez, I really cannot see why. Too American for me, I guess.

Honestly, I really don’t know what I can say about this book.
It’s not that I disliked it (if so, I'd definitely had a lot to say 😄),
but I just feel kind of neutral toward it now.
By the end of the book, I had a sort of “So… what now?” feeling.
I kept wondering, what was Mr. Salinger’s purpose in writing all this? 🤔

So, here we’ve got a teenager who’s fed up with life and people,
and who can’t seem to last in any school.
Everyone—literally everyone—seems awful to him,
except for kids, and especially his younger sister and brother.
He absolutely adores those two, almost to the point of worship.
To be fair, he’s not entirely wrong in a lot of cases—
the people he describes aren’t exactly fascinating or admirable.
But still, seeing everything as that terrible feels a bit much.
The book doesn’t really have a plot either.
It’s mostly his inner monologue, wandering around and meeting different people…
I had crossed this book off my list a long time ago,
because after reading a few reviews, I felt like I’d probably not be among its fans (since reactions to this book seemed super polarized to me).
But when I ran low on audiobook options, I thought, why not give this one a try?
And honestly, it wasn’t a bad experience.
Like I said, I didn’t dislike it, but... yeah.

holden caulfield you are a bit insufferable and i kind of want to slap you sometimes but you're also a very sad teenage boy who's grieveng and no one's giving you the help you need so they could never make me hate you
i knew i needed to read it since it’s a “classic,” but i didn’t have much expectations. but i just loved how petty and teen angst holden was. just felt real

If you want to know the truth, the goddamn book was pretty good. It really was.
