God, this book was preachy. The author openly admits that they hope people will "learn more about themselves and their identit(ies)" by reading this book, so I guess preachiness was the point. Which is fine, but it would have been nice if there had been some sort of plot to go with it.

My biggest complaint: The relationship between Felix and Ezra was SUPER unhealthy. All they did was get high, party, laze about and shirk responsibilities when they were together. Plus, Ezra was inappropriately touchy all the time. It's possible that I am letting my own experiences with uncomfortably intimate friends colour my opinion here, but their friendship had a million red flags and I was honestly suspecting Ezra of being the villain the entire time. So, when they ultimately ended up together...it felt like a step backwards for Felix, honestly.

I did like that the mom never replied to Felix's emails though. That was a refreshing dose of realism.

Whooodaaawhooo, another book, another review!

Felix Ever After cracked open something soft and sacred in me. As a Black queer late bloomer, I couldn’t stop thinking: what if I had the freedom to explore in high school? What if I had the language to name myself before the world tried to? Felix’s journey is messy, brave, deeply felt and it shook me.

I was shocked, honestly, by the characters’ freedom. The way Felix and his classmates indulged in their queerness, questioned, created, fell apart, and still insisted on his right to exist loudly. That kind of freedom? It felt like science fiction and scripture all at once. But it also lit something in me.

This book didn’t just inform, it affirmed. It challenged transphobia, deconstructed binaries, and asked society to sit with the discomfort of expansion. I closed it feeling more empowered to stand in my truth. Because becoming yourself? That’s the real revolution.

I don’t want to spoil it but the this story has a hint of who-done it, in the midst of teenage highschool drama. LOVED IT!!

Me han gustado el estilo, los temas que trata y la representación, pero no me ha convencido la trama en sí y cómo se tratan algunos eventos. Aun así, lectura recomendada. Ojalá más representación LGBT+ como la esta novela.

I wanted to love this book, but Felix's behavior hampered my enjoyment. He's a teenager—messy and frustrating, judgmental of classmates, his only friend, and his father, expecting grace he didn't give. Still, I think this important story should be read.
