Bloody loved this!! The time jumps annoyed me when they happened each time but then as soon as I was in each new chapter I liked that it had jumped. I think the last hundred pages or so felt a little rushed.
This novel, based on the life of Laura Bush, is the best book I have read in a long time. It is an interesting peek inside the life of a first lady. Admittedly, the line between fact and fiction is a bit blurry, and I found myself wondering which events were real and which were a product of the author's imagination. Alice Blackwell is a fascinating, complex, and extremely likeable character.
The writing was compelling and entertaining, and I am adding Curtis Sittenfeld's other two books to my "to-read" list.

Sittenfeld is a very talented author, and yet her novels always leave me with a sense of unease (which might be exactly what she intended). Overall I enjoyed reading this novel loosely based on Laura Bush. There are some sex scenes that I could have done without. Basically it left me thinking that perhaps I should read more biographies for a change.
Great book. Interesting look at the (fictional) life of how a First Lady becomes a First Lady.
I found this book to be better than I anticipated. It is loosely based on Laura Bush but is a work of fiction. I detest George W. Bush, but I have always respected Laura Bush. I find her to be intelligent & thoughtful. I've always wondered why she married George W. Bush. This book gives insight as to how that could have happened.
I have a hard time with alternate history, but I do love the author’s writing so much and bio fic is my thing, so I took a listen. I am amazed—Alice’s voice, her story. Profound offering, such insight. Even in the “made-up” world.
I was surprised to see when this was published. I think it’s even more profoundly insightful now.

Overall a pretty good book, but it took me quite awhile to get through it. The author did a nice job with the characters, but I remember preferring Prep to this book.
I thought this book had a good story line and really kept me interested the whole way through. I wasn't really ready for the political views and the not so subtle nods to a former presidential couple, but I still enjoyed it. Good read.
