I read the galley and it's beautifully illustrated. It's a quiet story but worthy of most collections.

My favorite part of this story are the illustrations, as Erin E. Stead is always so good and bringing simple beauty and emotion to a book. The idea behind this story is such a great one, a man who collects the letters that have been sent out to sea in corked bottles and delivers them to their recipients, never receiving any of his own. I found myself wishing for more from the story, however. Perhaps because the possibilities for where you could take a story like this are endless.

The Uncorker of Ocean Bottles lives alone on a hill and his job is to open all the bottles found at sea and make sure that the messages are delivered to their intended recipients. He loves his job but also wishes that some day a message might be sent to him. One day he opens a party invitation but isn’t sure who to deliver it to since there’s no name included. He goes on a mission to find out who it belongs to, and ends up finding something unexpected: new friends.

This is a lovely tale about loneliness, happiness, and possibility. It's full of beautiful illustrations that could narrate themselves. A combination that creates a touching story you will fall in love with.

This is A quiet, beautiful story that will fill your heart & maybe make you shed a tear or two. I adore seaside tales and this doesn't disappoint, weaving beauty, wonder, loneliness, kindness, friendship, and joy together. And, I love the soft illustrations. Sigh.

Beautiful story, beautiful illustrations.
Great mentor text for show, don't tell. Love the comparisons.
Stead's illustrations make you pour over each page, long after it was time to go to the next one.
