Though I enjoy Ms Hilderbrand's style of writing, this book was not quite what I was looking for. I will continue to read the series because her characters and settings are very interesting.
Gotta love this author for a great summer read! While I didn’t care much for Renata (who does that?!?), I adored Marguerite - flaws and all. I read The Beach Club so long ago, I think I now have to go back and reread to see what I think of Daniel and Candace again!

THE NOT-SO GOOD
Where to even begin. Hildebrand tries to dip her toes into queerness with these characters but it all just feels a bit unsettling and slightly unhinged. The big reveal, why one character has become a recluse, is disturbing to say the least.
THE GOOD
I enjoyed running into some familiar names, for example The Beach Club was previously owned by a character in this novel, Daniel Knox. Little Easter eggs like that are why I choose to try to read everything an author has written. Hildebrand does a really great job at setting the scene in this novel. I enjoyed exploring various foods and locales, especially Morroco.
OVERALL
This was a painful read. If I had read this first in my Hilderbrand journey, it would have been my last.

This was a painful read. If I had read this first in my Hilderbrand journey, it would have been my last.
This book seemed to stay slow for me and while I didn’t feel a need to pick it up all day, I looked forward to getting back to the story. By the end of the story, I was hooked and wanting more.
This was…fine. Truthfully, wouldn’t recommend it. The story and the characters seemed underdeveloped, potentially because it wasn’t a very long book? I found that I wasn’t really rooting for anyone in particular. Also, being that it was written in 2006, there was definitely some language (and some themes) that didn’t age well.
I usually enjoy Elin Hilderbrand’s novels set in Nantucket. This story was not my favorite but it was an ok read.
I like Hilderbrand's books and this one is no exception. I love that it takes place in New England. However, I felt that the story seemed to drag on a lot. I liked how it was told from different point of views - the first 2/3 of the book shifted between Margueritte's view and Renata. The last 1/3 was told from their points of view as well as other character's. It would have been really interesting if the book was told from all these different views throughout the whole book - it might have moved quicker.

Loved every second of this. The delicious food, the lush settings, the turbulent relationships…possibly my favorite Hilderbrand.
