My goodness this was sweet as hell. Two seventh grade girls figuring themselves out and where they fit in the world expressed in some lovely verse. Would definitely recommend.
This book made my baby queer heart sing! In middle school I couldn’t imagine interacting with any crush at all, let alone another girl. #RedwoodandPonytail follows Tam and Kate, two preteens who become close friends and “fall in like.” The two are at prime ✌

There are a lot of reasons I really liked this book. I think this book is necessary and adorable and love is love is love, so yay! However, these girls are supposed to be in 7th grade and the situations they are in seem more like high school so that didn't match up for me. I also feel like one of the main characters, Tam, needs to be explored further. There's a much clearer picture of why Kate is the way she is versus Tam and I would have liked to learn a bit more about her. There is also the issue of someone stealing the spotlight from Kate and when we discover who that is, (don't want to give away any spoilers here...) it is only explored for about a page. It's a big plot in the story that just kind of drops off to wrap up the book - a miss for me.
