What short stories are meant to be

I haven’t read many Hemingway books, so I guess this is a good start as any. However, I had no idea he was dropping the N-word and sharing stereotypical views of native Americans. Wow. Definitely an eye-opener for me. Nonetheless, this is a collection of short stories of Nick Adams aka Hemingway himself from when he was a young boy, grows up, goes to war, comes back with injuries and PTSD, and later gets married and has a kid. I enjoyed the short stories for two reasons: you get to see his writing style develop over time and also he shares his view and experiences thru the eyes of his character-Nick Adams. Overall, an okay read. I enjoyed the Big-Two hearted river and last good country short stories the most.

An amazing writer. Details that let you imagine that you are in the story.

The ratio of ethnic slurs and stereotypes to good storytelling was too high. I don’t want to hear that.

To be haunted by memories;
  Thy selfhood come.

So as to pray for forgiveness;
  Thy will be done.

Most of these were really enjoyable; particularly the first few "books" that focus on his youth in the north woods. But I find I'm not a fan of Hemingway or his writing during his life in Paris period. When "Nick's" stories start that phase, they don't hold my interest.
