The Regeneration Trilogy: I read these books in the late '90s, after Ghost Road was first published. I was in love with the British war poets of WWI at the time and this fit right in. I don't remember many details, but these books were great reads. Very athmospheric, accessible and captivating main characters, I suffered with them every step of the way.
P.S.: The movie is also very good.

This book is hard to review, since it is a hard book to enjoy. Yet I believe it is an important book to read. It tackles hard topics, specifically war induced trauma, the care of those suffering from those traumas and the devastating reality of nations who have sent their young to face unspeakable tragedies. WW1 has slipped from living memory so remembering that war, and all its repercussions is so important.
Two lines that particularly stuck with me are "A society that devours its own young deserves no automatic or unquestioning allegiance." And "The process of transformation consists almost entirely of decay."

i had to read it for school so im probably biased but eh boring
Loved it; thoroughly beautiful, brutal and affecting. I just feel a bit sad that she goes out of her way to demonstrate that Sassoon's affection for Owen was so much less than Owen's affection for Sassoon, when so many sources would disagree. This is a man who later threatened to stab Owen in the leg so that he couldn't return to the front, after all. It's totally fair, she's writing to her own beliefs based on her own research and I couldn't ask her to do anything else, but it loses a star from me nonetheless.
I've been going through and adding reviews to books I read ages ago that I wrote reviews for and then lost, so bear with me here.
I did not have a fun time reading this one. I don't even remember why, but I went in with huge hopes and excitement and ended up disappointed.

This is a good book if you're really into the World Wars, it's just not for me. I can tell it's well written, I just get really bored with the subject matter.
