at first, the plot itself was boring me to death and the paltry worldbuilding made me want to tear my hair out. but... I LOVE TAL AND I LOVE KEST AND I LOVE GARRETT AND I LOVE ISA AND I LOVE CORRIE. I LOVE SOMEWHAT FUNCTIONAL SIBLING DYNAMICS (pride month read 18/30)
I REALLY had fun reading this. It's pretty easy to guess where the story is going and who the villain is but that didn't mean I didn't enjoy it. The characters were what really carried the book and they were fantastic.

The romance was adorable! I loved them together, they were very wholesome and sweet, I can see this being a comfort read for me. The family relationships, especially the sibling relationships, were so supportive and lovely, too.
Tal, especially, was my favourite. I loved how much he cared for others, especially his family, that he often put them over himself, even when he thought they didn’t care for him.
It’s very silly, in some places, the world building isn’t great (and some areas underdeveloped, especially the politics of the world, which were introduced but not expanded on any further), and some parts were a little too convenient but it was so enjoyable, I didn’t really mind.
So was this book perfect? No. Did I absolutely love it? Yes. Am I going to read everything this author has written so far? Absolutely, yes.

Omg I was so nervous for the ending but this was such a cute book! It's perfect for highschoolers imo. It's a perf queer teen book. The plot was good, and around chapter 10 was when it was easier for me personally to pick up and read. Imo, the chapters in the beginning were long for my personal preference, so it was difficult just a little bit to get into it but once I was in it, I was in it! (It's probably just my ADHD and not having the audio book accessible to me in the beginning) but all in all, it's not a terribly long book, just 20 chapters. I really liked it! 4-4.5 but I'm not going to round bc while I liked I wouldn't reread it. It's a good vacation book I think!
