This book was exactly what I needed. I bought it because of its amazing cover and of the promise of a high fantasy MM love story! It delivered everything I wanted and more! The story let me on my toes and brought magic and myths to the page. I loved the subtle hints of fairy tales that were thrown in. Both of the MC were lovable and had you cheering for them from the start. The one thing I didn’t expect was the sibling love this book gave you. I love the family aspect and the growth that you saw!

I’m super excited it lived up to the hype I gave it and I cannot wait to dive into more books by this author

Okay, yeah, this was adorable and fun. I can't wait to talk about this one more in depth with my book club, but I think this is a top read of the year for me already and we're only in January. Cute romance, with an actually interesting political undertone and a magic system that actually made sense, along with it being short and easy to follow? This is a major hit.

This was very cute!! The plot was a little predictable in the back half, but still very enjoyable and made me want to try the author's other books!

DID NOT FINISH

I couldn't finish it. Dnf at 89 pages.

Pros: Literally none, even the queer romance couldn't make me give it a pro. Why'd they compare it to Pirates of the Caribbean?

Cons: insta-love, immature writing, annoying characters (all of them except the brother that turns into a bird and the older sister, and the older sister hadn't even shown up at the point I stopped reading. I'm choosing to believe she would have been the better protagonist), choppy character motivations, cutesy uwu aren't they gay romance (ugh), I don't think a single thought was put into the great-grandfather and the hatred towards magic other than "oh scary magic man" which as a person who loves political intrigue was so so much worse than the main character being badly written, and I wanted to throw Tal overboard the entire time I was reading.

I wanted to like this book but it's masquerading as something that it's not. *Throws hands up and leaves*

DID NOT FINISH: 20%

DNF at page 60. The dialogue is so unrealistic and the plot seems to be moving, but only barely. I couldn't fathom wading through to the finish line.
