The plot is what I genuinely love about this book!
While I enjoyed the first book in the series, the characters in this one didn't captivate me as much. I appreciate how the author reintroduced the characters from the first book to assist in this story.

So after finishing These Broken Stars, I quickly jumped into reading the sequel This Shattered World.
Jubilee Chase and Flynn Cormac should have never met. “Lee” is the captain of the army assigned the job of crushing the rebellion on Avon. Flynn is one of the rebels fighting for his freedom. But when Flynn captures Lee and brings her back to the rebel’s secret camp as a prisoner, the rebels are all in favor of slaying Lee. But before the can kill her, Flynn makes the decision that changes his life, he
leaves, fleeing the camp with Lee in tow.
Even those Tarver and Lilac are not the main characters in the story; we do cross paths with them and find them living life magnificently. However much like in These Broken Stars; Spooner and Kauman team up once again bring to life another round of fantastic world building and character detailing. The scenes are elaborate and well described. While Flynn and Jubilee’s story doesn’t take place on the same planet as Lilac and Tarver, it does take place in the same world; and the mystery of the Whisperers and the dubious thoughts towards the LaRoux industry is only elevated in this installment. The character detailing is very lifelike and realistic. They have complex personalities and the emotions makes you feel like you know who they true are.
Not only are Lee and Flynn phenomenal individually but they are spectacular as a couple as well. The urgency, the desperation, all of it is absolutely wonderful and you can’t help but to root for Lee and Flynn. However once again much like their debut team Spooner and Kauman took their sweet time getting to the good parts but the forbidden love is so worth the wait.
As a sequel, This Shattered World was a perfect match for These Broken Stars. I can’t wait to see what happens in the finale and recommend this great love story to all.

It took a while for the story to start being interesting, but once it did it was as phenomenal as the first book. The whispers are the romance was really well done and avoided insta love with all its strength. Seeing Lilac and Tarver again was a nice surprise too, so I hope to see all four of them in the final book!

It's been a while since I read the first book in this series. I enjoyed it immensely. I remember that I got myself the other two books because I really wanted to read them right away. And as so often happens I was distracted by other books and other stories. However, I was in the mood for sci-fi. Real sci-fi. With a touch of romance and I rediscovered this series. So, it was finally time to dive into this second book.
The authors take their time to paint a picture of the planet, of life on this planet and of the situation on the planet. It took me a little while before I really connected with the characters and the place, but once the where and how were established and we started to focus more on the who and the what I got more and more invested. By the end of the story I just wanted to keep on reading and reading and reading, because I had to find out if the characters would succeed.
It also took a while before the overarching plot, connecting the first and this second book, made a clear appearance. But once I realized what was going on I got more and more exited. It got even better when our lovebirds from the first book made an appearance and our characters started to join forces. Of course I knew that things were not really gonna be solved in this book, there is a third book after all, and yet I loved how it truly felt like there was some progress.
The main star of the book, and probably the series in general, is the romance though. I love how the authors have these characters grow closer and closer. They're on opposite sides of the conflict. They're starcrossed lovers in the true sense of the word. And yet time after time they find ways to choose each other, to pick each other, to fight for each other. Sometimes someone comes along who is truly worth changing the planet for.
I can't wait to read the third book and to find out how it all ends!

Again, another almost 4 star. This series isn't one of my favorites, merely a time killer but they're just a bit of mindless entertainment, I guess. Just like These Broken Stars I started off liking this book, almost thought it was better than the first and then it just kinda dwindled on. I don't know, I just felt really detached from the story.
So let's talk about the main couple, Jubilee and Flynn. I enjoyed their hate to love even if they did begin to trust one another fairly early on. The distance and back and forth element between the two was nicely done, although I didn't particularly feel any emotion towards them as a pair. Despite their questionable romance I did enjoy each character individually. Both Flynn and Jubilee were so complex. Jubilee being were methodical and hard hearted while Flynn was more of a sporadic pacifist. I also did like seeing Tarver and Lilac in this novel.
My main problem is I don't think I care too much about the plot line. The start was action packed, gritting and tense but the middle dragged immensely. It was a pretty standard ending that didn't have me gasping or tearing my hair out but it was well done. I just don't think I'm all that invested in what happens to the characters and that's why this wasn't as enjoyable as it could've been. Although the whole element with the whispers was cleverly done and definitely left an impact.
Over all this was a standard read that wasn't necessarily bad, nor mind blowing. I probably will be picking up the last book and I just hope that's not a 3.75 as well XD.
