Not bad at all! I found this book to be relatively exciting, although I did guess the culprit pretty early on. Where this book kind of lost me was the sudden switch to dual-perspective narration about 200 pages in. On top of that, the perspectives went back and forth rapidly for like 4 chapters (one or two pages per perspective) and then suddenly went back to just the original narrator. Speaking of the narrator, I thought, at first, we had a case of an unreliable narrator (she kept bringing new things up that she had previously concealed). I think the author could have done more with this and made the narrator more deliberately unreliable in her efforts to protect herself and her family, but maybe that’s just a personal preference. I did like the little connections to astronomy that the author wove into the story, and loved the relationship she built between the narrator and her husband.
The Space Between is a feel good mystery that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
The Space Between follows Sarah after she’s made a career changing scientific breakthrough. Upon returning home, she finds her husband is missing thus beginning a thrilling mystery.
Meserve does a fantastic job of capturing the readers’ attention immediately and maintains it throughout the entire novel. My eyes were glued to the pages because I couldn’t get enough of Sarah and her investigation. The Space Between isn’t just a mystery; it’s also a story of lost and rekindled love. Throughout the novel, readers are given a peak behind the curtain of Sarah and Ben’s relationship. This frames most of Sarah’s desperate search and self-reflection.
What I enjoyed most about this novel was Meserve’s ability to make we question whether or not I could trust Sarah. The reader is given information piece by piece as it pertains to Sarah’s quest to find her husband.
The Space Between is an incredibly fast paced novel until the end. From the first few pages until the last 10% of the novel, I couldn’t flip the pages fast enough. Unfortunately, the conclusion to the mystery is incredibly rushed. Everything falls into place and the story is concluded.
Overall, The Space Between was a surprisingly great read. It’s a feel good mystery that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

As a note, a copy of this novel was sent to me via NetGalley by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not effect my opinions in any way. Review also found here at Booked J.
This book was truly breathtaking. There's this quality to The Space Between that makes it impossible to step away from. I love the way it bends the mystery mold bit by bit, feeling final and classic. Meserve weaves a tale that is intriguing, smart and instantly classic.
The set-up is simple: a woman returns home to find that her husband is missing, a lot of questions and suspicion follow due to circumstances and revelations. It's a steady flow of sketchy backstories, secretive characters, human complexities and a marriage in trouble in more ways than one. Everything is intentional and well-thought out in terms of premise, and it never slows down. The Space Between feels very similar to other thrillers in the past but gradually tangles itself into something of its own, capturing the reader in its web of secrets.
Which makes it so, so enjoyable. You can almost feel where everything is going but it still manages to get inside your head and surprise you. Plus, the career of our main character is an added plus to the premise. I don't read many novels that feature an astronomer in them and I liked the vibe that it added to The Space Between. I know very little about the science behind it, but it's still a nice trait to add to a character.
It serves as an interesting, let's call it, backdrop, too. It just fits with the so-called space between the main character and her husband: Sarah and Ben, and then with his disappearance. I loved the way it emphasizes the atmosphere of The Space Between and adds an extra layer. When you finish the book and add up all of the backstories, those little flashbacks that showcase Sarah and Ben's relationship in good and bad lights, you can feel just how much effort went into the story.
As everything unravels, the readers are taken on a delicious ride from start to finish. You'll be faced with a similar amount of questions right along with Sarah and with every step, you'll be filled with more uncertainty until you're not.
If you are a fan of mysteries, this is the book for you. I'm so glad I requested it!

The mystery itself was along the lines of an elaborate Columbo plot without the benefit of seeing the crime committed. Given the husband is missing and the murder victim is someone Sarah has never met, there's not the emotional draw like the cozies I regularly read would have.
The set up for the actual murder plot — the woman in New York — took longer to set up than it needed to. There's a lot of time spent with back story about Sarah's relationship with her husband and the trouble they've been having with their son.

This book started out strong. I thought it was going to be a five star read, but the excitement fizzled around the middle of the book.
When Sarah returns home after a work trip she discovers her husband Ben is missing. Lots of layers are revealed about their relationship, their past, their current lives together. And at the center of it all Sarah is trying to figure out what happened to her husband, and is he even still alive? These details were revealed bit by bit, and the first half of the book was very compelling. However, suddenly little hints stopped being dropped and the ending became predictable and anticipated.
This wasn't a bad book, but it let me down a bit. It's one I probably won't remember a few months from now.

The stars and good mystery.
I loved the complex characters in this story. Some I wanted to smack right upside the head, boy were they well written! I loved all the astronomy talk woven throughout this book. Definitely my favorite character!
The plot line kept me looking in the slightly wrong directions so that when all was revealed it was very satisfying and enjoyable.

Wow, what a ride!! This book hooked me from page 1. I loved all of the analogies and reference to the celestial sky. The mystery of it had me staying up late wanting to continue on, and the suspense definitely had me creeped out! I did suspect who the killer was before we found out, but only briefly.
THE SPACE BETWEEN by Dete Meserve has a compelling storyline that hits home how we sometimes stop seeing things—truly seeing things—because they're in our line of sight every day; they tend to get lost in the shuffle and often "hide in plain view." I highly recommend this extremely well-written book.
I really liked this book!!! If I could give it a 4.5 I would. Not just because of the suspense and mystery either, which was good because I didn't figure it out until almost the end and even then I didn't know the how or why. The main reason I liked this book was the way that the author compared the mysteries and unknown about space to the mysteries and unknown about life.
There have been times in my life that I couldn't see or understand the space between because I was blinded by the light. Not everything in life can be explained or discovered at the moment that we want or need. Some things get discovered in their own time and some things remain a mystery. That's just life.
