Absolutely magical start to a new cozy mystery series! Set in a serene small town Oregon library, Librarian Josie Way gets more than she bargained for when she took the job to “lay low”. Filled with mystery, sleuthing, a adorable feline familiar, magic and quirky characters - this book was a great escape! 4/5⭐️

More and more, I'm finding myself gravitating towards cozy mysteries. So when I picked this one up and saw that not only was it a cozy, but it was a cozy with magic, I couldn't wait to dive in.
Honestly, it took me a little while to find the groove of this book. There were so many subplots happening all at the same time, that I almost needed a flowchart to keep everything straight in my head. But once I got into the groove, I got sucked right in.
Josie is a woman after my own heart. Had my academic interests been nurtured in just a slightly different direction, I most likely would have gone into the library sciences as well. Her love of all things books just really hit home for me, and endeared me to her immediately. And of course, with her life in danger, I wanted her to be safe as soon as possible.
The more Josie grew on me, the more the town of Wilfred did, as well. Which all tied into the various subplots. While slightly overwhelming to follow them all, I got to know the town and its residents intimately. It made me yearn for small town life in Oregon, to be honest. (Something I may be looking into in the future.)
And while we were unravelling a few different mysteries, I found myself not wanting to leave Wilfred, Oregon. I found myself desperate to call the town home, and lose myself in the rooms of the library. And of course, Josie coming into her powers as a witch was great fun, too.
I'm quite looking forward to seeing where this series goes, and I'm excited to visit Wilfred again.

This was satisfying as a cozy mystery with a dash of magical realism, perfect for curling up on the couch with a blanket and a cup of tea. That it was about books and featured a cat was a bonus. It loses a star from me because Josie, the protagonist, like so many amateur sleuths just didn't get the memo of "be careful".

Solid. I like the witchy vibes, & MC's backstory but on the fence about finishing the series
