what a YAWN.
started out with great characters and an ever better premise, but the farther along it went the worse it got. ughhugugh this is why i can't get behind romance as a genre. they're SO inconsistent.

“And before that goddamn frat party. ” AKDJSKDNAKDJAKDJAKSJ AAAAAAAAH
Honestly I had a bit of a hard time getting into it but once I did, I was INTO it. I absolutely loved this book. The side characters were amazing, January was so relatable. Gus was a bit of an asshole but in a way men can be. Like how guys can be assholes without intending to? Idk I thought it was interesting how Gus didn’t feel like a man written by a woman (or as he said “a Fabio”) he just felt like a man lmao. That did make it hard for me to LOOVE him but he was great.
The plot was amazing, from January’s family situation, to the research process Gus was making.
One thing I love about Emily Henry is that her characters feel human. They make mistakes. They say the wrong thing some times. They can be mean. Yet you love them. That’s how I felt about almost every character in this book.

This was a little spicier than PWMOV, but it was still a cute romance that had some depth to it.

This is becoming a theme with Emily Henry books. I wanted to like this so bad, but I couldn’t get into it. I was not prepared for all of the backstories and side characters. Needed more romance, less side plot!

I really enjoyed this refreshing romcom about writers block. The banter was great and the characters were dealing with realistic problems, in a realistic way. I liked the message of enjoying the moment and not worrying about the pain that the future will inevitably hold. I have obviously been reading too many historical romances, where happily ever after is guaranteed forever. Here, there are no promises for the future, only hopes, and I relate to that.
