More like a 3.5. I think I would have enjoyed this book more if I had had more background on the characters. It was still pretty good, though. Now I may need to read several more series.

This is a very clever way to craft a book. Instead of simply being an anthology of short stories written by different authors, this book pulls a collection together by giving them a central gravity around which they need to orbit. Namely, a bunch of seemingly unrelated characters are yanked from their "universe" into a bar, tended by a robot that uses clever tech to make all feel comfortable there. And while there, they share various stories that are all more or less addressing a question of "What's the most interesting encounter, conflict, or situation you've had in your life in your universe?"
Most of the authors all have their own series' with main characters, and so the authors write a scenario using that character - but the collection weaves them all together in a (somewhat) directed way that works.
On the whole, enjoyable to read. And I definitely discovered some authors I will read more of (including an author I actually know personally, but had never read!).
