Unexpectedly fantastic read. More on the blog.

This was an amazing book. I could not put it down till I had finished it.

In turns profound and mundane (like life?) This book is a quick read and can be taken at surface level or readers can go deeper.
Great for book clubs - there is much to discuss.
I liked the evolution of Alan’s diary and how different he writes than speaks -so true!
I found some parts corny and un-developed but you get the gist without the literary-ness that makes a book exquisite. Overall: straight forward writing with a few gems. I prefer nicer prose but enjoyed this allegorical tale.

Very intriguing. Can't wait for the next book.

A man loses his wife and his business in a short period of time and sets out to walk from Seattle to Key West, Florida to find himself. Meets some fun characthers along the way. Some good philosophical tidbits along the way. This is a short, easy to read book. If you like Richard Paul Evans style, you will like this book.

The great thing about RPE novels is that I can start and finish them in one sitting. What I didn't realize about this new book, is that it's the first of a series - and the next one doesn't come out until next year. Which means by the time the next book comes out...I'll have forgotten this one completely.

This was just a so-so book for me. I was really hooked in the beginning, but once he started on his 'walk' - it started to bore me. I didn't need to know the details of every single town he stopped and every single restaurant he ate at. It was more about the relationships and people he was meeting along the way that I cared about. Doesn't rate high on my list of RPE books, and still on the fence if I'll read the next one.

Wow. I read through this whole book in the matter of a few hours. It's a really quick read but it's just so interesting. There was so much little bits of wisdom throughout this book. It's about a guy, who loses everything in about 6 weeks. He had everything, the job, the house, the car, and the wife. The sweet thing about it was how much he loved his wife. She ends up falling off a horse and becoming paralyzed. After her death, just a month later, he makes a hard decision and decides to just.. walk. He starts his journey and he meets some people along the way that also add some wisdom to this book. There are also some people who he meets that will make his journey harder than it already is. There are some amazing quotes in this book that I'll add:

"It is in the dark times that the light of friendship shines brightest.”

“As a boy I heard this story in church.
A man was patching a pitched roof of a tall building when he began sliding off. As he neared the edge of the roof he prayed, "Save me, Lord, and I'll go to church every Sunday, I'll give up drinking, I'll be the best man this city has ever known."
As he finished his prayer, a nail snagged onto his overalls and saved him. The man looked up to the sky and shouted, "Never mind, God. I took care of it myself."
How true of us.”

“The assumption of time is one of humanity's greatest follies. We tell ourselves that there's always tomorrow, when we can no more predict tomorrow than we can the weather. Procrastination is the thief of dreams.”

Those are just a few. I really liked this book. I'm so glad I brought the next two home with me and have started the next book!

After a spell of not so interesting books, this was a winner. I really enjoyed the story and was touched by the message within. It was a SUPER quick read and I was thrilled to see that it is going to be a series of books.

This is the first book I have ever read by this author. The concept was interesting, the message came thru but I found the writing very dumbed down and trite.
