Getting rather confusing, and also quite depressing. I'll keep going through the next TPB, but someone better survive!

Definitely the strongest volume so far! It felt as though it really built on the story and developed it in a really interesting way. I really liked the depressing element to this volume it contrasted so well with the discussion of "hope" that is such a common theme. The art maintains being difficult to understand at times, the images often become distorted and hard to understand what action is taking place. In general it was better than in previous volumes but still definitely something that I am very much aware of. Additionally, I still feel as though Remender could have slowed down the narrative a little and explored and expanded on things a little more (not "hope" though... we're super good on that front!). Pirate boyo and Mermaid gal were a real unexpected pleasure in this volume and I really cant wait to read more. PB and Stel's dynamic was peak (though definitely a little bold of him to be talking about love with her when it was literally in the last volume he was talking about all the messed up shit with his daughter and wife).

Well, that is some serious shit. Are they going to be coming out with any more issues of this? Is this the end? I can't tell if this is really the end. Is that seriously what happens. That's some serious shit. I give it 3 stars because the art is still too glorious for my life, but it really deserves 2 because what was the ACTUAL point of such a visually stunning showpiece with a science-fiction plot not conventionally explored, loaded with every waypoint and plot line that would ensure its masterful success, only for it to END IN ACTUAL SHIT?

This goes for the three volumes:
great story, great artwork, nice plot twists & character evolution,
but quite sexist, and...
[particularly the 3rd volume - spoiler alert] pessimistic and depressing as hell!

Is Low the most depressing comic a person could read read? It's not quite [b:The Killing Joke|96358|Batman The Killing Joke|Alan Moore|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1346331835s/96358.jpg|551787], but Remender, as in [b:Black Science|20881139|Black Science, Vol. 1 How to Fall Forever (Black Science, #1)|Rick Remender|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1410031362s/20881139.jpg|40221511], is good at interweaving familial issues through characters' larger survival goals. The dreamlike art and thematic pallete are a draw as well, though the paneling isn't always clear in layout or sized appropriately for the action.
