This book was reminiscent of Where the Crawdads sing in that it is set in the south, follows a girl who is nearly friendless in the world, and has lovely descriptions of nature. The writing is solid, but the plot twist was predictable and I didn't find myself rushing to pick this book back up.

4.5 ⭐ — a heartbreaking and beautifully written story about an overlooked part of history
i see the where the crawdads sing comparison but really the similarities stop at the girls being orphans from carolina...
