What a pretentious, cisheteronormative pos author wow
Couldn't have picked a better book to reach my 2023 reading goal with. Books sometimes resonate differently depending on circumstances, and this one came at the perfect time-I don't think reading this would've impacted me the same way at any other moment. But perhaps the most impactful book I've read this year.
One of those books I'd recommend to anyone looking to build relationships (of any kind) with intention, and looking to reflect on solitude, attraction, reaction, conflict, patience, self-control, boundaries and the karmic lessons in between (albeit, some lessons felt more woo-hoo-y than others).
I've seen criticism of this book regarding how Shetty misinterprets Vedic texts (i.e. with four Ashrams, Bhagavad Gita, 4 stages of love) and how they can't apply in this format. But isn't life about trying to blend ancient wisdom with our own modern experiences? In my opinion, applying his learnings as a monk in a novel way re: relationships and purpose felt incredibly palatable and refreshing, but maybe that's just me.
The 21 highlights (some public, some private) barely even scraped the surface. Not all of the content felt directly relevant to current me, but I can see myself revisiting this book as life continues to evolve. Had to write a long one for this - worth it.

Listened on audiobook. I found the majority of the principles in this book to be helpful in shaping my own perspective on giving and receiving love.

This was a special experience, my partner does audiobooks and I am old school through and through. Together we read this book chapter by chapter (rule by rule), it provoked so many thoughtful conversations, surfaced insecurities, prompted deep self reflection and ultimately expanded the love we have for one another. More importantly the love we ARE as beings to organically share with the world. Read it Jay Shetty is moving us forward in the direction we all will benefit from.
“Puedes pasarte la vida entera buscando el amor y no encontrarlo nunca, o puedes dar amor toda tu vida y experimentar alegría.”
Me gustaron varias lecciones, aunque en parte no estuve de acuerdo con ciertas situaciones porque siento que es una espada de doble filo que muy bien puede ser utilizada en tu contra, o tal vez solo estoy hablando de mi experiencia people-pleaser jaja pero me gustó.
