From page one I enjoyed the writing and from about page 30 I cared about the characters. By the end I was ready to buy every book in the series only to find out book two is being released in six months.

It’s a fantastic story with an interesting magical system and delightful characters - all written with a light hand and marvellous turn of phrase.

I can’t wait to read more.

I expected the mystery to be a bit more central instead of the romance, however it still was an enjoyable read. I did not expect the explicit sex scenes though.

Although this book was stunning for a debut, there was one scene in the second half of the book that felt like it was filler content. It felt like it was something to push the word count to the required minimum. Yes, there was a detail that was later used, but I feel like it could have been written differently.

Although the enemies-to-lovers trope was well done, it felt a little underwhelming. They didn't quite feel like enemies in the beginning, but there is a fine line between what was here and abusive, so I can be okay with "a little underwhelming".

I didn't have many expectations ahead of reading this book, but from the first couple chapters I was REALLY into the world and the characters. The writing is nice, and fits the story well, and I kind of flew through the first part of the book. However, I didn't love the way the relationship developed between the main characters, it just wasn't my vibe, and the sex scenes were so...uninteresting to me and wayyyy too long. I also feel like the plot/mystery unfolded at kind of a jarring pace, kind of like nothing happened, nothing happened, then suddenly a ton happens at once. In the end I felt like I was struggling to care in the last few chapters and I didn't feel invested in the conclusion. I might have really loved this if I had read it when I was more interested in fantasy and romance, but I should have realized that's not as much what I'm into nowadays!

This was such a fun romp through a truly unique magical world! I loved Edwin and Robin equally as individuals, and they were also so freaking adorable as a couple. The magic system was so interesting and well-developed! I have to admit, I thought this was a stand-alone and was disappointed to find it a series — so we’ll see if I continue the series — but nevertheless loved the plot of this one. It was so intricate, and so much fun. Highly, highly enjoyed!

Fun, exciting, and incredibly romantic! This was the romp around Edwardian England I didn’t know I needed. I love Robin & Edwin but especially my sweet boy Edwin, who is just coming into his own power. The magic system was interesting and the plot was both fast-paced and well-written. The mystery of the novel was easy to follow & fun to try to figure out. My favorite thing, however, was the emotional connection between Edwin & Robin 🖤 I really enjoyed watching them fall in love & I can’t wait to see how lovely the next book is!
