This book had exactly what I like. The magic system was interesting and I want to learn more about it. Robin and Edwin were a delight; loved their banter, their tension, their honesty. <3
A bit steamier than I thought it would be, but that's fine by me!

From page one I enjoyed the writing and from about page 30 I cared about the characters. By the end I was ready to buy every book in the series only to find out book two is being released in six months.

It’s a fantastic story with an interesting magical system and delightful characters - all written with a light hand and marvellous turn of phrase.

I can’t wait to read more.

What an unbounded joy this book is! Edwardian England, secret magical societies, civil service bureaucracy, mayhem & machiavellian mysteries, oh my!

One of my most enjoyable reads, with protagonists that are rounded creations & whose predicaments carry real weight.

Robin becomes the liason between the Prime Minister and the magical department in the civil service...but he was unaware magic existed - until now. It's going to be messy to clear things up, but that's Edwin's speciality.

Robin and Edwin dislike each other on sight...but something sinister is afoot, so they must work together if they've any chance of survival. And both of them have secrets they have to hide...

Smart, layered, emotionally real and with characters you CARE about - cannot recommend highly enough.

This was such a fun romp through a truly unique magical world! I loved Edwin and Robin equally as individuals, and they were also so freaking adorable as a couple. The magic system was so interesting and well-developed! I have to admit, I thought this was a stand-alone and was disappointed to find it a series — so we’ll see if I continue the series — but nevertheless loved the plot of this one. It was so intricate, and so much fun. Highly, highly enjoyed!

In honor of receiving a copy of A Restless Truth from NetGalley: my review of A Marvellous Light!

I thought this was a fun and compelling magical historical mystery. Robin is thrust head first into a magical world he didn’t know existed in a race against time to find out why he was cursed and what happened to the man who had his job before him. His partner (both in solving the mystery and romantically) Edwin is at first, annoyingly the only one who can help.

The magical system was incredibly interesting to me, especially since I’d just read another book with a similar idea on magic and would love to know if it’s based on something or I had coincidentally read them so close together.

The progression of Robin and Edwin’s relationship was also lovely to read about and I think what I enjoyed the most about the book. Edwin, probably being my favorite character of the book.
