This was a solid horror novel. It was definitely creepy!

Something I didn’t love was the writing style. I feel like it would jump to different perspectives in the same chapter without a visual marker. It was just a little bit confusing.

Other than that, it was action packed and creepy! Perfect for the spooky season!

I enjoyed this more than I expected to! I definitely didn’t find it scary (though there is some disturbing content and language) so I would take the “most terrifying novel ever written” blurb with a grain of salt. Rather than pure horror, this book deals with crises of faith and science vs. religion, which I found to be really compelling. I’m knocking off a star for the writing style, which was great but took awhile to get used to since the dialogue is so realistic (meaning people will just stop talking in the middle of a sentence and jump to another thought), but overall I liked this book a lot and can see why it’s stood the test of time.

It didn't become exciting until the actual exorcism took place which was a lot later than anticipated. However, the lead up did have some disturbing acts under possession which was actually uncomfortable to read which was the point. I just wish the exorcism came earlier and that the ending didn't seem so abrupt.

it's too bad blatty was so weird and conservative, this could have been a great horror novel about a repressed gay priest coming to terms with his sexuality. to me it is. anyways, it's well written and engaging, an enjoyable read if you don't look under the surface lol
