I've made it a tradition to read this book every year during the fall time. I highly recommend the audio book because William Peter Blatty puts his heart and soul into the narration! 10/10

Almost exactly what I expected and hoped for. Sinister, vulgar, blasphemous, and very creepy. My only gripe is that I wish the actual exorcism portion of the story were longer. There was so much build-up, and it makes sense that every other medical condition would be ruled out before considering demonic possession, but still. I wanted the actual exorcism to be more lengthy and intense with more of a theological reckoning.

The movie is one of my favorites and I was interested to see what got cut to make it work for film.

The movie is an excellent adaptation that gets the story across in a way concise way where I didn't realize I was missing any context until I read the book. That being said I really enjoyed the book because it fleshes out the characters and their motivations in a way I found engaging.
I did think some sections were a little slow, and Blatty spends a little too long trying to nail down what's wrong with Regan until
Karras sees the stigmata forming on her body and Merrin gets called to perform the exorcism
, but overall I really enjoyed reading the book version.

Made me want to read the second book in the series and watch The Exorcist 3!

This book is a strange experience. The story is gripping (despite everyone knowing the plot at this point) and kept me interested throughout.

A little odd that the title character is barely in the book, really, and his end is quite underwhelming, but overall a fascinating read and executed very well.
