A little slow to start but once I was able to get into the story I enjoyed it. I would classify the book as more creepy/dread inducing than actually scary. It’s over 500 pages so of course it’s got a lot going on, almost too much at certain times which can get confusing. It all comes together very interestingly in the end though so worth the parts that slog a little IMO.
the writing is just way too cringe to me. The character dialogue doesn’t feel natural and all of the characters talk the exact same. I think the characters have brought up climate change like every 25 pages and I can’t tell if it’s an inside joke between the characters or the author just feels really passionately about the topic. It feels like the author is trying too hard to be quirky and funny, but that’s not the tone of the book so it’s off putting? I just don’t think this author is for me unfortunately!
I would likely give this 3.5 stars, if I could. It was a behemoth at 500+ pages, and could have probably been at least 100 pages less. But the story.. whoa. I loved the way it started, and was full in, and then it went OFF.THE.RAILS. in a good way, but man! This could be made into a movie, easily, and really should be, as the line between fantasy and reality is SO blurred. It's creepy, terrifying, unreal, real and so out there!

All in all a good story. At times it felt hard to follow, jumping from one idea to the next, with a really thick plot line. Other times it felt repetitive. It was a long story, but when you boil it down to its main theme, it was creative. I would have preferred if the author had written two separate books, tackling the story from different angles, rather than squeezing many subplots into this one. I would recommend it if you like slow burn, mystical phenomena. Even though it was long, it read pretty quickly and I was able to get through it in a week.

This was my chuck Wendig. I wasn't sure what to expect, but story was not kinda book. It was more of a mystery with Sy-Fi overtones.
More of a 4.5 rating. I liked this book- it was written, in a way, like Stephen King. Which I like every so often to read. It made me want to get to the ending in a good way, enjoying the read along the way. Liked the characters as well. A little bit of us, or me, in all of them, I think.(not so much the murdering and killing aspect though
