I don't know what to say about this book. All i can say is that it was a great read. A different kind of story and a gripping one too.

I think I wasn’t in the mood for 500+ pages of slow burn horror.

The Book of Accidents is a rollercoaster ride of parallel worlds that makes you ask is the bad guy a demon or generational trauma? This is the third of Wendig's books I've read and I am again reminded how his characters feel like real people you'd just meet out and about and how his books feel like immediate meta snapshots of the current times,  demons and magic and parallel worlds withstanding.

The first half had me in a chokehold… kind of puttered out towards the middle, I felt like the “reveal” of “wtf is going on” was too soon and made the last 40% drag

I am a fan of horror, through and through. The more horrific the better. I’ve read a few “horror” books before, but nothing has ever satisfied my horror loving mind like this book. I actually hope they make it into a movie or series.
And, as a fan of horror, I have only good things to say about The Book of Accidents. I began this book with zero expectations. Never heard of the author. Was slightly intimidated by the length. But, I dove into it and boy, am I glad I did! I was hooked after the first chapter. One main reason I was hooked was because of Maddie. I am Maddie (minus the artistic talent). I immediately was able to relate to this foul-mouthed momma and I loved it. Great characters all around, the storyline never got too “sci-fi-ish”, or ridiculous, and for that I am thankful. No spoilers here, but if you’re a fan of horror, read this. You won’t be disappointed.

If you count the cover, this novel starts off great. For me, it fell drastically down the enjoyment mountain soon thereafter. Too many times I was asking myself 'Why are they doing that?', 'Why is this character even in the book?' or 'What does this have to do with the story?'. There is a lot going on here, and frankly some of it is excessive. The biggest issue I had though was I didn't feel like those questions were ever answered. There is mention of child abuse a fair amount and that can be a trigger for me, so perhaps I wasn't reading as closely as I thought I was. Just not for me.

Love love LOVE this book. It would easily be my favorite book of the year, and it's only February.
