I really liked the majority of this book. But I had to take a star off for the weird side-story that didn't add anything to the plot for me, and kept interrupting Adam's story. Maybe it was for someone smarter than me, but I didn't really get it.

this is my favorite book!!!!!!!!!! i am very emotional after reading it yet again!!!!!!!!!!

I bought the hardback of this book for my son's 14th birthday, but then decided to listen to the audio first to see what it was like. Boy, am I glad I did.... It contains exceptionally graphic sex scenes (mostly gay sex) that I don't think my young teenager is ready for, yet.

The story is brilliantly told, very open, honest, emotional, authentic. I loved Adam Thorn and his BFF Angela Darlington, but the other characters were so well written, too. A very powerful YA story - 4 stars.

0 stars for the weird fantasy chapters about a dead meth addict and her murderer in form of a faun and a queen. Basically these are irritating and superfluous, so I'd recommend the book and just skipping the weird stuff.

Love, love, love this book. It's strange, it's real, and it's brave.

Adam's story was great. I loved him and his friends. I loved being a part of his day: seeing, feeling and experiencing the same things. Patrick Ness is a great writer and I love his contemporary fiction(with some fantasy elements) more than his full on fantasy stories.

Great LGTBQI book with relatable problems that sucks you right in and keeps you begging for more!

Patrick Ness has never really disappointed me; his style, themes and prose just scratch a certain itch for me. The stories he tells, how he lets them unfold, and the characters within always manage to land somewhere within me and I race through them at breakneck speed, only to then mourn the loss of sitting with them. I will admit the supernatural elements of this book confused me a touch, and perhaps I need to think on it all a bit more so I can understand how it fits. But having read some of his other work, his particular narrative peculiarities or features feel a little more familiar, and I am able to understand it without completely getting it. Here we have a wonderfully interesting and heartbreaking protagonist, who has one of of the best friendships I've read in a while, and a truly interesting and understandable inner monologue and life to live. I would have read much more of these peoples stories set in this world.

Patrick Ness keeps making me think he's perfect.

As someone who grew up in a conservative evangelical setting, there are always large overlaps between my experiences and what Ness writes. I appreciate the critique that comes with it.

3.5 stars. I'm not quite sure how to rate this book. I liked it, but on the other hand it was quite strange. This book contains of two storylines togheter. The one of Adam is very powerful and realistic, whereas the other one is quite strange and not realistic at all. I like the juxtaposition of this book, but at the end I was soo confused. Definetly a books which leaves you with questions.

4,5 stars

I have not cried while reading a book in a long time. I have to say that page 221 destroyed my heart.

I forgot this book had LGBT representation as such a central focus and I really didn't expect the magical realism storyline to be what it was. This story is so gentle and raw and excruciatingly beautiful.

This may be my favourite Patrick Ness book. It may be my favourite book of the year so far.
