okay there's a latin american character in this book who gets what sounds to me like a vaguely russian accent by the narrator. and i had to hear the word "giggled" like two hundred times. just like. needed to get that out of the way.

i was enjoying this at the beginning, it seemed like it was leaning into the ridiculousness of the premise, and the leads were clearly attracted to each other from the start.

but there was sooo much more angst than i expected. the arguing throughout the book was pretty much unbearable. it was so incessant for so long that by the end when they have their love realizations it's completely unbelievable. wtf do u mean u want to spend the rest of your life with the woman who kept trying to kick you out of her house because she was mad about her attraction to you?? it just kept getting more and more soapy as it went on which really is not my bag. i am rly not even sure why i bothered finishing this one.

I enjoyed this one a lot. There's just something about it. It has good vibes. Until the drama bits lead to the usual odd plot choices. Conflict for conflicts' sake. The usual romance hiccups that could be solved with clear communication.

If I hadn’t been working on a project while this was on, I’d have likely DNFed it.

The writing felt a bit clunky. I didn’t care for the switching back and forth between the real characters and their characters on the show. It was an odd choice.

I also didn’t like the transition between the MCs. Maybe it was just me, maybe it was the audio, idk. But it just felt jumpy and kinda hard to follow.

And the plot? It sounded so good but it just didn’t work. I didn’t feel the connection between Quinn and Lacey. It seemed like they went from tolerating each other to being in love with the flip of a switch. I just didn’t believe it. And their whole relationship was so back and forth, and they would go from friendly to fighting I felt like I had whiplash.

And don’t even get me started on that ending. What the hell was that? Are you serious?  I am so for real when I say ain’t no way their relationship doesn’t end in divorce.

This is one of those books that makes you repeat "WHY CAN'T Y'ALL JUST TALK HONESTLY" over and over again until they finally do.  But unlike other stories, Elle Spencer throws another curveball and the ending isn't so clear anymore.  I love how the last third of the book kept me on my toes with twist after turn after twist.  Definitely think it's worth the read.  Not crazy spicy, but absolutely an emotional rollercoaster.

This was a fun one! Fake dating is one of my favorite tropes and this was a great example of why it can be so delicious. Both Quinn and Lacey were likable, sexy, frustrating, and easy to root for. Their chemistry is there from the beginning and all the flirty fake dating stuff is great, add in a ‘they’re basically temporary roommates’ and both have to physically and emotionally care for each other throughout the book? It’s a great ride.

This is a narrator that I’ve encountered before, and she’s not one of my favorites. She’s perfectly serviceable but there’s a slightly stilted? awkwardly paused? something about her narration is a little odd, but once I got into it it stopped being as noticeable. She’s not a narrator that I will seek out more of on purpose, but neither is she one that I would avoid in the future. Overall, it was a listen that I really enjoyed but might have been a five star with a different narrator.

the second half dragged on a bit. i love a good slow-burn but you have to have something preventing them from getting together in order for it to work. it annoys me in romances when the pair both have acknowledged feelings for one another and there are absolutely no obstacles in their way, but they still won't get together. like these mfs were both out to each other, lived together for ages, and both knew they liked each other, but the author still dragged it out for ages. just TALK to one another.
