Okay dang… beautiful yet approachable fantasy, original world and magic concepts, great representations, unfolding mysteries - I loved this book. It’s been on my list for a while, but I went without reading it for so long I think because the title is pretty generic so I kept thinking I’d already read it!

This pains me because there was so much potential behind the magic system, but I just can’t keep pushing myself through. It’s not that the book is bad, it’s just that I find myself bored the majority of the time. I may look up spoilers just to know what happens, but having only been really invested in 1 of the 4 POV’s, it’s not worth it to me to force myself to finish.

I really enjoyed this one!! The magic system has a dark edge, and the world building is intriguing. The author did interesting things with the 1st and 3rd person POVs that I found really interesting.

This book was a big surprise (positive). Heard about it from more than 1 reviewer on Book Tube. It has a disjointed start - there are several main characters that are featured and the chapters (fortunately short) jump around among them. You wonder how the characters will end up interacting (if at all) - note that this is a first volume of the series and guess that this is providing the backstory to getting everyone together. There are also a lot of magical and even science fiction like occurrences that happen by surprise because initially, you think that the story is set back in the past. I'm encouraged to continue with the series although the stopping point for the first book makes sense. I would expect the second part to be very different and look forward to being surprised further with new revelations.
