"The Bone Shard Daughter" by Andrea Stewart is an enthralling fantasy novel that blends magic, politics, and mystery into a gripping narrative. The story takes place in an archipelago ruled by an Emperor who uses the power of bone shards to control the population. The narrative is told from multiple perspectives, giving readers a comprehensive view of the world and its characters.
One of the main characters is Lin, the Emperor's daughter, who is determined to prove her worth and gain her father's approval by mastering the art of bone shard magic. However, as she delves deeper into the workings of the empire, she discovers disturbing secrets and a conspiracy that threatens to tear the realm apart. The other characters include Jovis, a smuggler with a tragic past, Phalue and Ranami, a couple with conflicting ideals, and Sand, a golem with a mysterious past.
The world-building in this book is impressive, and the author has created a richly detailed world with its own mythology, cultures, and political systems. The use of bone shards as a form of magic is a unique concept, and the author explores the ramifications of this power on society and individuals.
The pacing of the story is excellent, with each chapter ending on a cliffhanger that propels the reader forward. The author skillfully weaves the different storylines together, building up to a satisfying conclusion. The characters are well-developed, with complex motivations and backstories that add depth to the narrative.
Overall, "The Bone Shard Daughter" is a highly recommended read for fans of fantasy and political intrigue. The world-building, characters, and pacing are all top-notch, making for an engaging and immersive reading experience.

I'm still a little bit conflicted of I just read... I don't know how I feel about this story, the way is was going and I definitely had no idea how this was going to end. I liked some of the characters, but not everybody. I didn't really enjoyed the way the story was set up and I just still can wrapped my head around it. But I will still read the sequel, because of the magic elements. They were very interesting, a bit confusing sometimes but I want to find out where this story is going. For now it is a 3/3.5 star read for me..
The world building and characters in this story are beautiful. I don't intend on finishing the series, because I liked how this book ended and don't think I would be interested in the stories left unfinished.
This magic system is so unique and complex, I’m obsessed! The characters are lovable and multifaceted, the story is intriguing, mysterious, and full of surprises even for the seasoned twist-guesser I tend to be. And of course I would die for the animal companion!!

Solid mystery plot, interesting world building, and loveable characters.
2.5⭐️Not that there was anything wrong with any of the characters, but I couldn’t connect with any of them. The whole thing was pretty underwhelming.
