One man's lust for the American success story drowns the next couple of generations in hellfire and damnation.

Based on the true events of a family legacy, it's clear that Candace put in a lot of research and effort to ensure that the story was historically factual. This caused, at times, the book to read as more of a history book than a novel.

There were also many characters to be hopped around and I didn't develop any attachment to them. in fact, many of them, it was like oh, you died? Took longer than it should have. To be honest, the characters didn't matter and the demon was almost, annoying?

The writing is solid, the dedication to being historically accurate evident, and that it is based on a family's legacy in real life fascinating, it just didn't hold my interest.

If you make a deal with the devil, it's always wise to check the fine print! A family curse is started and the story goes through generations who have to deal with the consequences. As this story is based on true events, it gives an extra dimension, and adds to an already enjoyable story. The narrator does a good job in bringing the story alive too.
