miserable people, miserable story, miserable writing. It was the horrible writing that really pissed me off - can handle a story about miserable people but not if it is horrible written like this.

This started as a book that was a clear five stars but as it went on it sank to a four and by the end, it graciously earns a 3. The story seems a little too long and frankly just begins to grate on the reader when it's all said and done due to returning to the same old narratives expressed earlier. It has excellent pacing but it feels like the writer struggled to ultimately express his feelings on gentrification without being repetitive to the detriment of his overall story. Will attempt to seek out his other works as I think he might be a master storyteller if he has a more worthwhile topic or finds himself better able to expose his views in multiple ways rather than a singular narrative.
Welp, this was not a spooky book as I had thought when I downloaded it. This book is engaging and easy to read in one sitting. I could see this as a movie easily. The publisher description is accurate as this is a look at one woman's attempt to catch the "American Dream"
