Dead Man in a Ditch was excellent! I felt like Arnold really found his flow and his voice with Fetch in the second novel (it wasn’t as jumpy as the first novel and I felt like Arnold focused less on the poetry of words and those film noir similes that were packed in the first book.) My only critique was the ending seemed a little rushed to me, but that was my personal experience. I really liked the mysteries and the plot twists this time around. Excited to read the next book!

This book is a definite improvement off of the first one. Luke Arnold is clearly getting better with each book, and it makes me excited to read the final book in the trilogy. The world manages to convey a sense of loss without the loss being oppressive, the plot line is engaging and thrilling from start to finish, and the character work done, especially with the main character Fetch, but also with the side characters is wonderful. After being held up the last week and prevented from properly reading this book all the way through, I finally had the chance to complete this book yesterday and it was extremely easy to read from 250 pages from the midway point of the book to the end.

Everything that I loved about the first Fetch Phillips book I loved here too! So heartbreaking and bittersweet but really special. I already have the third one out from the library and cannot wait to read it. GAH I’m emo about Fetch!
