An entertaining book that has its moments of laugh out loud funny. I, and you dear review reader, won't regret picking this book up if it sounds good to you. However, there are other books out there that do everything this one did, but better.

This was a rare instance where I liked this book a lot but enjoyed it more reading on my Kindle rather than listening to the audiobook. The narrator did a great job with the female voice, but I thought her Rex voice sounded like a congested, effeminate, super nerd. Besides the narration though, I really liked this book. It actually made me laugh many times! I thought the writing was clever & the story wasn't predictable. I'll definitely read more in this series.

While it had a few moments of genuine laugh out loud humour, it was mostly boring. And the star wars references were pretty forced.

A few scattered laughs, but not quite enough.

I won’t rehash the story; you can get that from plenty of other reviews.

When I saw this book, the description caught my attention, but all the positive reviews really convinced me. This is one of the funniest books I have ever read. At times I was reminded of Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Catch 22, Spaceballs, and M*A*S*H, not just because of the type of humor but also the quality. I hope the reference to Spaceballs is taken as a compliment. The humor here is much better, than and not as silly as that movie.

With other books, I occasionally read a passage to my son because it is so funny. I didn’t do that with this book, because there were so many, I would basically be reading him the whole book. Instead I convinced him to read it, and he will soon (after he finishes another book I convinced him to read from the same author.)

Here are two different lines I really liked. They are more profound than funny, and not typical of most of the book.

Unfortunately, it is human nature to seek simple solutions to complex problems, and when a “solution” is found that is not immediately disastrous, it is often embraced with enthusiasm far outstripping its actual merit.

(He) agreed. What choice did he have? A sane person is always at a disadvantage when negotiating with a lunatic.

The hero found 16 different ways to misquote the name of the weapon (yes, I counted)

There is a line that is so hilarious I wanted to quote it here, but I don’t want to take away from your enjoyment of it when you read it in context of the story. If you’ve read my review this far, just read the book already. You will not regret it. I can’t say enough how much I enjoyed it.

The only thing that disappointed me was because the way the story ended, there can’t be any further adventures of Rex, it just wouldn’t be the same. (I am being vague to avoid a spoiler.) That was disappointing because I wanted to read more. I read The Chicolini Incident, which was billed as a short story prequel to this. It came across more like a deleted scene that could have been included in this book. It led right up to the start of this book, and was very enjoyable to read too. I recommend reading it after your read this. It will make more sense and fill your desire for just one more adventure from the hero.

I am very stingy with 5 point ratings. I only give them to the best of the best books that I read. I have no hesitation giving this 5 points. It is that good. Now go read it.

3.5. This was a really fun, clever book. The plot tied itself in triple zeppelin knots and came together more or less perfectly. There were some way-too-convenient resolutions peppered throughout, but it's space farce, so I don't fault it too much. Will definitely move on to the next in the series.

Take a stupid cartoon character like Zap Branigan or American Dad and let it go on for seven hours too long and you have this book. Oh, and did I mention that the whole universe is filled with people this stupid. It got better as it went on, but not good enough. I don't recommend.
