A little overwritten and repetitive at times. And the amount of untranslated Spanish can be a speed bump, especially in the 2nd half where it's far more common, and made me wish I'd gotten this on Kindle instead of audio where it would be easily translatable. But despite those hiccups, it's still fantastic, Zamora's choice to tell this story exclusively through the eyes and hears of his 9 year old self is genius. Even though it does contribute to the repetition at times, it is a constant reminder that this is happening to a child and not the 30 year old man who is recounting it.

It's so refreshing to see a book on a major public book club (Read with Jenna) that goes against form will require a little patience from its readers
