My least favourite outlander book so far. The story is still fab like all the other books in this series, but there's so many problematic characters and moments
(Mr Willoughby, all the slavery parts, the assisted suicide)
that I found it a very uncomfortable read.

After learning that Jamie might not have died at Culloden, Claire, Roger and Brianna start trying to track him down, using historical sources from the 1740s while in the 1960s. It's slow going, but they discover a Scottish legend and decide that the legend must be him (they're right). And then they learn that he's in prison, but not what happens when he's released. Until...

On the other side, we learn Jamie's side of the story, from not dying at Culloden to how he escape the British for 7 years before being arrested and imprisoned, and what happens after being released.

Claire goes back through the stones, and meets up with Jamie in Edinburgh, where he's doing many things, including smuggling. When Young Ian is captured by pirates, they have no choice but to brave the 2-4 month sea voyage across the Atlantic to rescue him.
