I found this book in a little library. I always love a good thriller and the cover and summary sounded good.
Everybody dies! Well not everybody but a lot of people die in this story. At some point I really started to wonder who was left and it got a bit weird. What did not work for me either was the fact this was a small town with a psychiatric hospital and that many murders would have caused a bigger uproar in my opinion. The plot is really pushing one suspect up front but it becomes so obvious that at some point I started to doubt if it could be. Especially as there is not a lot of information to work with. Still there is this urgency in the story that kept me captivated.
I did not much connect to the characters. Jan is obviously a troubled man, Carla is grieving, Marty on the dark depressing side it is there. Still there is not enough story to really develop what it does to make me feel that deep dark emotion that is looming at the edge. In a character driven story I did miss that despite the fact there was enough going on to keep me busy.
