i just couldn’t get myself to finish this, it’s been sitting for 2 years not even half read on my shelf. i loved the movie and figured i’d like the book but that was just not the case. (DNF)
Ah. Well. That was ok? (3 feels generous but 2 feels mean idk)
Pros:
- I mean, in general it was fine.
- In a non offensive, readable, and bearable kind of way.
- I believe most people will (and do) like this, I just happen to not be one of those people. Doesn't mean it can't be you.
- I like Josh as a softboy (but jealousy was so ugly on him)
Cons:
- I started to highlight whenever Lucy would refer to her size as small. I stopped after a while because it was CONSTANT. I get it. Fucking hell.
- The last quarter of this book was a cheese fest.
- CRINGE ("Anthony, it's been real", "'No charge, " the cashier tells me .. "Lady, that was better than theater.'", "When we kiss, I hear some applause.") And just..that entire breakfast scene.
- Really did not like the pacing.
- I get that this is a romance and like, a thing people enjoy is the difference in size between couples. Lucy is SHORt JOSH is giANT. But I felt like there was toooooo much time spent on stuff like that. Instead of describing Josh for the millionth time as having a nice bod and gorgeous eyes, like....build him up as a character ya know?
- Lucy just goes ON and ON about his body, and he even says at one point that he hated when women would objectify him and call him not relationship material. She makes a note to stop doing that....but she doesn't stop lmao.

Honestly this book gave me everything I wanted from it. It was the classic tropes to lovers romance novel but it was well written and not cringe. I really liked how it was written from only Lucy’s perspective bc throughout the book you where learning more and more things about Josh. If you liked beach read you would love this! The ending was good and it let you have a bit of an imagination with it. Overall a great easy read!
Amazing! Hilarious! Sooo sweet ... and intriguing .. I loved every word and savored every sentence! This is a book that sucked me in completely... I was expecting a light read, similar to Sophie kinsella's books but this is so not the case! Between Joshua's shirt colors that Lucy keeps track of and Joshua's mysterious scribbling on his diary that Lucy is dying to decipher the tension keeps on rising and at first we don't know what is going on in their heads ... except for the funny games they play together all day long: the staring game - the how you doing game etc. This book is different, it is not just another romance at all ... it keeps you on your nerves and you get to know the characters progressively even if we only know Lucy's point of view; the dialogue is so present that we also feel what josh is thinking ... and josh, oh Josh! Alpha male who is hiding behind his arrogant mask, who has his own reasons ... but who is the dream man of every girl, although only Luce was able to "tame" him and keep him interested and most importantly keep up with his "asshole" side.
I can't wait for another book by the same author ... can't recommend it enough!
