I LOVED The Hating Game. It was a lot of fun to journey through Lucy’s passionate hate, then passionate lust, finally transforming into the sweetest love towards the oh so sexy and fierce Joshua Templeman. I loved seeing Lucy lift him up, confirming his worth after he lost who he was. Seeing Josh push Lucy to be a stronger person and a better leader was empowering as well. And it was so so damn steamy!

4/5 well deserved spicy stars

okay so, yikes. where to begin?

The writing, let's start there. This book is 95% dialogue and 5% prose. It's bizarrely disorienting, the author is so focused on their "banter" (which isn't even that good) that descriptions of setting/actions/events are abandoned. You'll be reading along and suddenly a character's actions are described or there is suddenly a cup of hot chocolate in their hands. Where did it come from? Why do I need to know about it? Heavens knows. The actions are janky, disjointed. The play carrying out in my head suddenly jerks to a stop and the characters zombie walk thru their randomly described actions. It isn't connected, they make little sense. The SEX SCENES are even worse - sure, they're prose, but they're so disjointed, they make no sense. One second they're in one position and the next she's physically doing something impossible from the position?? I couldn't picture a damn thing, it was like a foggy cloud of sex and you just vaguely knew what was going on. Not hot. The author also tries to string you along, maybe trying to build tension, before sex finally happens? But by the time we get there, the chemistry has vanished and I'm just bored as hell while he penetrates her.

She's tiny and acts like a child. I've written reviews before about the creepy, gross problems of infantalizing women. How is her personality attractive at all? And HIM. Ugh. He's been a dick to her for years and we are supposed to believe it was all miscommunication, it was raging LOVE?? And now that it's out in the open, he'll treat her with respect? Nahhhh, brah, I don't buy it. Also, there's no hate-sex in this. It's a Hating Game with no hate-sex. Just sex where she cries bc she loves him soooooo much and he licks her tears. Aight.

It also suffers greatly from "me caveman, me own you, me gonna punch every man who looks at you, unga bunga."

This book is GREAT if you love Twilight.

You know I’ve been hearing about this book for years and it was terrible

RE-READ 17/05/2019: This is still so adorable.

This is so cute that I couldn't put it down. So funny, adorable, hilarious! I would love every romance novel to be like this, with no trace of the usual tropes and with characters too adorable and sweet for my own heart

Dear lord, I love this book.

Absolutely Wonderful, 5 stars!

Full disclaimer, contemporary romance isn't really my jam. I mostly read fantasy and sci-fi, with some dark romance thrown in. Light and fluffy isn't my thing. At least it wasn't, until this book.

I freaking adored everything about this. Lucy and Josh are just incredible, I was rooting for them so much! I adored the humour, it was just brilliant. I laughed out loud so many times. Also, this book just gave me ALL THE FEELS. I was laughing and crying and it was just so intense.

I don't think I've read a more perfect book.

5 strawberry shortcake stars.

DID NOT FINISH: 3%

Juvenile writing, watched the movie and didn't like it so decided to see if the book made it better. It didn't.
