I'm trying to become a poetry girly, but this is just making me anti-millenial.

I love queer feminist poetry. This had cute little poems including some interesting things about Aphrodite. I also liked the pictures in it, I feel like they really added to the work.

A fresh take on the parallels between Greek mythology and modern poetry, Trista Mateer has created a conversation between Aphrodite and herself, a queer poet. Balanced with lovely color illustrations and photo edits, this book is a loud, bold assertion of femininity and sexuality in the women's own words.

Many of the poems followed a similar, repetitive structure that after a while felt redundant. However, Mateer is skilled at creating an impact in few words, a successful skill for any true poet. I'm excited to read more of Mateer's work and see where her creativity and talent takes her.

Aphrodite Made Me Do It is a mix of hard truths and self care. The whole time you are sympathising and seeing the authors pain and anger. At the same time you can find many of your own struggles depicted in the poems.

I cried many times while reading this books. Tears of pain, joy, relief.
